The working principle and types of temperature sensors commonly used in automobiles
Temperature is an important parameter reflecting the thermal load state of the engine. In order to ensure that the control system can accurately control the working parameters of the engine, the engine coolant temperature, intake air temperature and exhaust temperature must be monitored at any time in order to correct the control parameters, calculate the mass flow of air inhaled into the cylinder, and perform exhaust purification treatment.
Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS), usually called water temperature sensor, is installed on the engine coolant outlet pipe. Its function is to detect the temperature of the engine coolant, and convert the temperature signal into an electrical signal and transmit it to the ECu. The ECU corrects the fuel injection time and ignition time according to the temperature signal of the engine, so as to make the engine run in the best state.
The intake air temperature sensor (Intake Air Temperature Sensor, IATS) is installed in the intake pipeline, and its function is to detect the intake air temperature, and convert the temperature signal into an electrical signal and transmit it to the ECU. The intake air temperature signal is a correction signal for various control functions. If the intake air temperature sensor signal is interrupted, it will result in difficult hot start and increased exhaust emissions.
