　　The PIR sensor module can be mounted on a small board, as shown in the figure above. The detection range is 5 to 10 meters, selected by the jumper on the board. The three pins visible in the photo are for power (3VDC to 6VDC), ground, and output. With a 5VDC power supply, the output can provide up to 23mA current. The power consumption of the module is only 130μA in idle state and 3mA in active state but without load.

　　This type of board still requires additional components to set the "on" time or alarm of the lights and to turn off the PIR during the day. The PIR can be purchased as a single component containing two elements and an FET transistor to amplify the signal. Available in surface mount and through-hole versions, requiring typical power from 3VDC to 15VDC. However, a PIR purchased as a "bare" component requires extensive external circuitry using comparators or operational amplifiers. Circuit design is not straightforward and introduces practical problems, such as the sensitivity of op-amps to voltage spikes caused by the activation of relays that share the same power supply.
