    NTC temperature sensor

      NTC is the abbreviation of negative temperature coefficient, that is, Negative Temperature CoeffiCient. The principle is that the resistance value decreases rapidly as the temperature rises. It is usually composed of 2 or 3 kinds of metal oxides, mixed in clay similar to fluid, and sintered into dense sintered ceramics in a high-temperature furnace. The actual size is very flexible, they can be as small as 0.010 inch or very small diameter. There is almost no limit to the maximum size, but it is generally applicable to the size below half an inch. NTC thermistor is a temperature sensor that uses the resistance characteristics of ceramic/metal composites to measure temperature.

      The negative temperature coefficient thermistor is made of manganese, cobalt, nickel, copper and other metal oxides by ceramic technology. These metal oxide materials have semiconductor properties, because they are completely similar to germanium, silicon and other semiconductor materials in the conductive way. When the temperature is low, the number of carriers (electrons and holes) of these oxide materials is small, so their resistance values are high; With the increase of temperature, the number of carriers increases, so the resistance value decreases. The variation range of NTC thermistor at room temperature is 100~1000000 ohms, and the temperature coefficient is - 2 [%]~- 6.5 [%].
