    VGA thermal sensor with FIR

      2109 PIR lens

The sensors using FIR technology can overcome the reliability and perception problems faced by many current sensors. FIR has been used in the fields of national defense, security, fire protection and construction for decades, and has become a mature and proven technology. This mature technology has also been applied to automobiles. FIR camera uses far-infrared light wave to detect the difference of heat (thermal radiation) naturally emitted by objects and convert this data into images. Now common optical sensors used in cars can only capture images that can be perceived by the human eye, while FIR cameras can scan infrared spectra above visible light, so they can detect objects that cannot be detected by ordinary cameras/radars/LiDARs (Figure 2).

The VGA thermal sensor with FIR has a sensitivity of 0.05 ℃ for high contrast imaging, and can detect pedestrians 200 meters away. The FIR sensor will be able to track pedestrians at 30 or 60 fps and detect the road ahead

In addition to capturing the temperature of an object or material, FIR cameras can also capture the emissivity of an object - how effectively it emits heat. Since each object has a different emissivity, FIR cameras can sense any object in its path. With this information, the camera can create a visual picture of the road that can operate independently and safely.

In most cases, the thermal FIR can also detect lane markings and pedestrian positions (the direction he faces). It can then determine that pedestrians are leaving the sidewalk and are about to start crossing the road in the opposite lane. Therefore, the FIR sensor will be able to predict whether the vehicle is at risk of hitting pedestrians.

In response, autonomous vehicles equipped with FIR sensors will slow down to ensure that there is still enough time to brake when pedestrians have very sudden movements. This will ensure that pedestrians and vehicles can reach their destination safely.
