    FIR filter with fixed length pulse

      As an alternative to IIR filter, FIR filter is designed with fixed length pulse response as its name implies. In fact, the usual design method of FIR filter is to design the frequency and phase response, and then calculate the inverse Fourier transform to generate the pulse response (this is the FIR filter itself). From a design point of view, this has many advantages, because it allows the design of filters with complex frequency responses without any side effects of nonlinear phase responses, thus not causing problems in acoustic systems.

      – Filters with arbitrary frequency response can be created – Control the phase response of the filter

      FIR limit

      Therefore, although we have obtained some very ideal advantages using FIR filter, there are still disadvantages: – Compared with IIR filter, the group delay is long – Compared with similar EQ/divider in IIR filter, the required DSP capability is much larger – The group delay length is proportional to the lowest frequency affected by the filter – Only works within a limited frequency range of a given filter length – Low frequency resolution difference
