RTD Pt100 and Pt1000 have similar tolerance ranges, and both have similar temperature coefficients, depending on the purity of the platinum used in the sensor. When comparing Pt100 and Pt1000 in terms of resistance, please remember that the resistance reading of Pt1000 will be 10 times higher than the resistance reading of Pt100 at the same temperature. For most applications, Pt100 and Pt1000 can be interchanged depending on the instrument used. In some cases, Pt1000 will work better and be more accurate.
What is the difference between Pt1000 and Pt100, and the following is detailed information on how to determine the difference between Pt1000 and Pt100:
PT100
Pt100 is widely used in many industrial and commercial applications. Compared to dual wire configurations, Pt100 is more suitable for 3-wire and 4-wire circuit configurations. This is due to an important working principle of Pt100 sensors: as the resistance on the sensing element is much lower than Pt1000, poor resistance in the leads and connectors will have a greater distortion effect on the overall resistance measurement, as it will include a larger percentage of the total resistance measured in the circuit. The lead resistance is measured and compensated by an instrument that accepts a 3-wire or 4-wire configuration.
Pt100 can provide thin film and wire wound component structures. Pt100s are compatible with a wider range of products and instruments as they are widely used.
PT1000
The Pt 1000 sensor is suitable for applications with 2-wire circuit configurations. Due to the larger resistance of the Pt1000 sensor, the twisting effect of the resistance in the leads is generally not significant as it accounts for a small percentage of the total resistance in the circuit.
Due to the ability to measure higher resistance values with smaller currents, Pt1000 can be used in configurations that consume less power than Pt100. Low power consumption, less heat generated, and therefore less affected by errors caused by self heating.
