    Thermistor B value

source:Industry News release time:2022-07-09 Hits:     Popular:Infrared sensing module

NTC is called a negative temperature coefficient thermistor, which can be used as a high-sensitivity, high-precision temperature sensor. It is also often used for real-time temperature monitoring and temperature compensation in electronic circuits.

The B value represents the material constant, which is a parameter describing the physical properties of the thermistor material and an index of thermal sensitivity. The larger the B value, the higher the sensitivity of the thermistor. It should be noted that in actual operation, the B value is not a constant, but increases slightly with the increase of temperature.

The B value is a physical property value representing the sensitivity of the thermistor to temperature changes. The characteristic of NTC thermistors is that their resistance decreases with increasing temperature. The larger the B value, the faster the resistance value decreases with the increase of temperature, and the opposite is the smaller the B value. The rate of change of its resistance value is represented by the B value. The slope on the line graph can also represent the rate of change. The greater the inclination (that is, the greater the B value), the higher the sensitivity to temperature changes. When expressing the B value, the selected temperature point should be marked, such as B25/85.

The B value, which represents the rate of change, is calculated from the change in resistance value between two ambient temperatures. The B value is different from the resistance value. The B value is determined by the material composition of the thermistor chip. Even if the size of the thermistor chip is changed, the B value specification will not be adjusted. In addition, the resistance value of the thermistor with a large B value is also high, so the resistance value and the B value cannot be freely combined. For example, it is extremely difficult to develop a thermistor with a very high resistance value but a very small B value.
