      Thermistors are sensitive elements, which can be divided into positive temperature coefficient thermistors (PTC) and negative temperature coefficient thermistors (NTC) according to the temperature coefficient. NTC thermistors are widely used in various fields, such as our common temperature measurement and control, temperature compensation, etc. When NTC thermistor fails, how will it behave? How to quickly judge NTC thermistor failure.

      The failure of NTC thermistor can be divided into three types

      ① Short circuit of NTC thermistor: In NTC circuit, when the loop current is higher than the set value or the rated power is higher than the large resistance for a long time, the temperature of the thermistor will be higher than the set value. So when the current starts, the thermistor will show a very low resistance, and then the thermistor will be burned, causing a short circuit or an open circuit.

      ② Cracking of NTC thermistor: when the current starts to work, it may lead to instant large energy loading into the thermistor. If the product is defective during production, NTC may be unable to bear and then damaged. In general, NTC performs better. Resistance value or direct cracking.

      ③ Resistance value deviation of NTC thermistor: NTC thermistor is a heat sensitive semiconductor element. If IR reflow and rework exceed a certain temperature and time, the thermistor is also easy to be damaged, causing resistance drift. In this fault, the resistance of NTC may become larger or smaller.
