In simple terms, NTC thermistor refers to a negative temperature coefficient thermistor, which is a type of sensor resistor whose resistance value decreases with increasing temperature. It is made of metal oxides such as manganese, cobalt, nickel and copper as the main materials and is manufactured by ceramic technology. These metal oxide materials all have semiconducting properties because they are completely similar to semiconductor materials such as germanium and silicon in electrical conductivity. The following mainly introduces the use method and purpose of ntc thermistor in the circuit.

When NTC is used for temperature detection, monitoring or compensation, it is usually necessary to connect a resistor in series. The choice of resistance value can be determined according to the temperature area that needs to be detected and the amount of current flowing. Generally, a resistor at room temperature is connected in series with the NTC resistor. Resistors with the same value, and ensure that the flowing current is small enough to avoid self-heating and affect the detection accuracy. The detected signal is the divided voltage on the NTC resistor. If you want to get a more linear curve between the voltage and the temperature, you can use the following circuit:

According to the characteristics of the negative coefficient of the ntc thermistor, ntc is widely used in the following scenarios:

Temperature compensation of transistors, ICs, crystal oscillators for mobile communication equipment

      Temperature Sensing for Rechargeable Batteries

      Temperature Compensation for LCD

Temperature compensation and sensing for car audio equipment (CD, MD, tuner)

      Temperature compensation for various circuits

Inrush current suppression in switching power supplies and power supply circuits
